Duties and Responsibilities

Identify Park and Recreational Attitudes

  • Engage with individuals and organizations in the community to understand their park and recreational preferences.

  • Foster a dialogue to ensure the park system aligns with the diverse needs of our residents.

Make Annual Budget Recommendations

  • Develop and propose annual budget recommendations to support the maintenance and enhancement of current park facilities.

  • Advocate for resources that facilitate the continuation of ongoing and future park and recreational programs.

Insure Resources for Ongoing and Future Programs

  • Work to secure resources necessary for sustaining existing park programs and planning for future initiatives.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to explore funding opportunities for the benefit of the community.

Accept and Perform Delegated Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibilities delegated by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen in the interest of park system improvement.

  • Execute tasks in accordance with the highest standards of professionalism and community service.

Advise on Basic Policies

  • Provide input on fundamental policies that guide the operations of the Parks and Recreation Department.

  • Ensure alignment with the city's overall vision and goals.

Maintain a Clear Distinction

  • Understand and maintain a clear distinction between the role of the Advisory Park Board, the governing body, and professional staff.

  • Foster collaborative relationships while respecting individual responsibilities.

Submit Recommendations in Writing

  • Communicate all recommendations or suggestions in writing to avoid misinterpretations.

  • Enhance transparency by documenting the rationale behind each suggestion.

Recognize Potential Outcomes

  • Acknowledge that recommendations or suggestions may not always be followed.

  • Remain flexible and open to alternative approaches that align with the city's best interests.

Review and Advise on Development Plans

Recommend Sites for Park Expansion

The Advisory Park Board meets every 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in City Hall. The public is welcome to attend. Anyone wishing to speak during the meeting, must be signed up to speak by 5:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting.
