Duties and Responsibilities
The Mayor and Board of Aldermen of each City governed by this Chapter shall have the care, management, and control of the City and its finances. They possess the power to enact and ordain ordinances that are not repugnant to the Constitution and laws of the State. These ordinances are deemed expedient for the good government of the City, the preservation of peace and good order, the benefit of trade and commerce, and the health of the inhabitants thereof.
The Board of Aldermen is authorized to establish ordinances, rules, and regulations deemed necessary to carry out these powers. Additionally, they have the authority to alter, modify, or repeal existing ordinances as required. For more information or inquiries, please contact (417) 883-5840.
The Board of Alderman meet with the Mayor every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall. The public is welcome to attend. Anyone wishing to speak during the meeting, must be signed up to speak by 5:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting.
